The land that the Inn sets on was granted by the United States to Rodolphus D. Jennings on October 14, 1882. In the late 1880''s the Dakota Hot Springs Company was formed and the land was platted into lots, blocks, streets and alleys. The streets and alleys were dedicated to the public for public highways and uses, but the Hot Springs Company reserved the rights to the exclusive use and control of the warm and cold water of a mineral nature flowing through and under the said streets and alleys.
